THE YOUTH AND THEIR RELIGIOUS AND MORAL ATTITUDES
Summary
Gradual desacralization is one of distinctive features of our world. Nevertheless, men who decide to lead the lay life cannot free themselves totally from religion. Recent sociological studies prove without doubt that young Poles are strongly influenced by the religious doctrine resulting from the deeply-rooted Catholic tradition which plays an important role in forming one's outlook on life.
In 1997 a questionnaire was given to pre-graduates, the total number being 378 students, in two high schools in Lublin. This particular age group seems to be of special importance since their opinions are fairy established already. The analysis of religious and moral attitudes shows that acts against truth and one's own self are the most disapproved ones. Some acts against conjugal morality and faith are approved. Liberalization connected with sexual attitudes is demonstrated mainly when pre-marital sexual relations are concerned; these are definitely approved by the majority of young people. On the other hand a greater part of the respondents accepts a necessity of being married at least at a church wedding as a basic condition of being a wife and a husband. Almost three third of the students are against abortion but only a half of them are for banning it altogether. The students coming from the intelligentsia families are characterized by greater acceptance of liberal attitudes. Few of them condemn acts against conjugal morality and religious faith, pre-marital sexual relations or a total ban on abortion and they rarely perceive a necessity of having a church or civil marriage certificate. Students who come from big cities often choose unorthodox answers. They approve of self abuse, acts against faith, pre-marital sexual freedom, civil weddings and accept abortion unconditionally. Answers given by female students stress a necessity of having a church and civil marriage certificate to be lawfully married. They also more often express the opinion that terminating a pregnancy should be banned altogether. On the basis of the conducted analyses it can be concluded that coming from the intelligentsia may result in moral attitudes incompatible with the teachings of the Church. Similar conclusion can be drawn concerning people born in big cities. These relations, however, are statistically irrelevant. The same can be said about the sex of respondents. Girls are prone to behave in a more orthodox manner than boys. The results of the research show the influence of sociocultural pluralism on the dominance of selective attitudes. What is crucial, however, is the fact that there exists a group of people who present the accommodative attitude, i.e. accepting the relevant aspects of the teaching of the Church, whereas those who refuse to comply with the teachings of the Church altogether are a marginal group. This may testify to continuity of the attitudes showing acceptance of moral attitudes as proposed by the Church which, despite competition of other outlooks and lifestyles, will not lose their identity in the attitudes of generations to come. The presented results are obviously limited to a specific community and a precisely determined group of people. Therefore it seems advisable that further research be conducted taking into consideration other communities and social groups.

LA NEGAZIONE DELL'ETICA CRISTIANA NEL MONDO CONTEMPORANEO
L'autore riassume i problemi piu scottanti della cultura post-modernista. Innanzitutto tocca l'eredita ateistica del secolo scorso (sopratutto quella di Hobbes, Heidegger, Sartre e pensatore americano - Z. Bauman). Il fondamentale piano della negazione del cristiano si fonda intorno al problema della liberta umana. Il discorso sulla liberta ha uno spessore enorme, vastissimo, che tocca tutti gli ambiti dell'agire umano: dalla filosofia alla teologia, dalla psicologia alla politica, dalla morale alla religione.
La coscienza morale e la proprieta piu saliente e piu qualificante dell'essere umano: quella che distacca maggiormente l'uomo dagli animali, conferendogli il potere di essere l'artefice di se stesso. E una cosa interessante che nella cultura post-informatica si sviluppa il concetto della coscienza morale come "coscienza senza senso di colpa". Essa si presenta anche come l'esperienza senza responsabilita umana. Con tale esperienza nasce la pressione culturale verso la negazione dei valori cristiani. Nelle discussioni sulla liberta umana alcuni pensatori negano che l'uomo sia libero (cosi Spinoza, Schopenchauer, ecc.), altri affermano la totale liberta umana, senza limiti (cosi Hobbes, Nietzsche, Bauman, ecc). L'etica costruita sul questo piano antropologico si manifesta come "l'etica liberata dalle norme universali o l'etica permissiva".
L'autore presenta nel suo articolo la tesi sulle controversie culturali. Il modello della cultura secolarizzata e l'uomo "libero e bello". Nella cultura cristiana il modello e Gesu Cristo (Veritatis splendor). Egli non e soltanto il nostro Salvatore che con la sua passione, morte e risurrezione ci libera dal peccato e ci dona la grazia di Dio, perché possiamo partecipare alla vita divina, ma egli e anche il nostro modello etico. Tutti i misteri do Cristo costituiscono esempi per chi vuole seguire la sua condotta. Questo ultimo criterio si presenta come criterio personalistico per ogni uomo moralmente integrato.

The betrayal as the personal tragedy and moral wrong. Summary
The author presents different types of betrayal. Firstly, the article concerns the betrayal of God, then the betrayal of conscience and other people, and finally the betrayal of one’s ideas. The author describes variant forms of “the negation of faith” in reference to living conditions in communism and accentuates ‘cooperation with evil deed’. First of all the article presents three forms of ‘negation’ and lack of loyalty. Then it mentions “the betrayal in irenism”, “Ajaks’ complex” and “the betrayal for earthly career”. And finally it draws our attention to the “martyrdom inflicted by totalitarianism”. The main thesis revolves around the ethos of people suspended “between heroism and brutality”.

MORAL OBLIGATION (DUTY). Summary
In last decades, moral theology a little were forgotten about the issue of moral obligation. An interesting matter for this is that it speaks of duty within the limits of human rights in professional ethicists and in – negatively – in the anti-pedagogies. The author in the article presents the first complexity of the issue of duty (aristotelianism, stoicism, utilitarianism, personalism). It develops, among other things, motif about new kind of deontologism – “deontologism of consumerism”. The whole ends with a lecture about personalistic understanding of duty in light “self-determination of person” and in light of universals – truth, goodness and beauty.

Esoteric Morality versus Catholic Ethics
The theory of esoteric morality developed on the basis of utilitarian ethics tries to realize a postulate that ethics should have, above all, practical application. The aim of the article is an attempt to answer the question whether this theory may become a common ethical position of two distant views on morality - utilitarianism and personalism, and whether the attempts to justify esoteric morality with arguments that are closer to the Catholic ethics are correct. The article engages in a polemic with examples of such apparent consensus, and also indicates the position of the Catholic ethics towards the esoteric morality.

Problema relationis inter normas iuris et normas morales perdifficile est, im mo ab nonnullis (Ihering) promunturium philosophiae iuris censetur. Przedmiotem rozważań artykułu są relacje łączące Afrykanina z istotami nadnaturalnymi, mające swe odzwierciedlenie w etyce. Podstawami wszelkiego wartościowania są życie i społeczność. Ich kontynuację i trwanie zapewniają zwyczaje, tradycja oraz mit uobecniany w rytuale. Nieprzestrzeganie owych zasad rodzi pojęcie winy i występku. Zbudowany na ich fundamencie katalog powinności i wykroczeń wskazuje na specyficzne rozumienie zła jako wykroczenia przeciw ustalonym normom rytualnym i społecznym, postrzeganych jako wywodzące się od Istoty Najwyższej i sankcjonowanych przez inne istoty nadnaturalne. Dlatego muszą być podjęte działania przywracające harmonię. Afrykańska moralność akcentuje i jest nakierowana na obfitość życia.
