Pope Benedict XVI in the Encyclical Caritas in veritate says that „there are certain religious cultures in the world today that do not oblige men and women to live in communion but rather cut them off from one other in a search for individual well-being” (No. 55). This well-being leads people to rejection of God and a religious life. „Without God – in the pope’s opinion – man neither knows which way to go, nor even understands who he is” (No. 78). For human creation, having a spiritual nature, accomplishes itself In the fullest way most of all in relations with God and interpersonal relations. This relates in a special way – as we read in the Dogmatic Constitution on the Church Lumen gentium – to a family community in which every child through the sacrament of baptism enters the living relation with God and the Church. It is at home where parents are to be witnesses of the faith and love of Christ to one another and to their children (see No. 35).
A family has got special capacities to fulfil its didactic functions. They result from the fact of responsibility of a family for a young person. The Declaration on Christian Education Gravissimum educationis underlines the fact that „since parents have given children their life, they are bound by the most serious obligation to educate their offspring and therefore must be recognised as the primary and principal educators” (No. 3).
Therefore from the earliest years Christian parents should teach their children respect and reverence to God and neighbours. As the first educators and catechists of their children they should be aware of their religious knowledge, educational skills, responsibility for their child and its religious upbringing. They should also understand the need of creating a Christian climate in their families. Pope Benedict XVI calls Christian parents to help their children to believe, to accompany them on a road to Jesus and with Jesus, because life in a family – according to the pope – becomes more open and joyful if God is present in it and if one experiences His closeness, especially in a prayer.

The Church’s Commitment to Religious Inclusiveness in Teaching and Learning Theology at the University Level in South Africa
One of the major tasks facing Catholic theological education at the undergraduate level nowadays is that of helping to equip the churches and their leadership to respond to the growing raise of globalization, multiculturalism, religious diversity, and multiple religious belonging. In this new context, the Catholic institutions of higher education are required to help their students gain a competent knowledge of the non-Christian religions and develop a genuine openness to work with “others” for peace and unity in the world. The Catholic institutions should help future church leaders to overcome their ignorance about the other religions and thus understand better God’s self-revelation in the one salvation history, especially recognizing the unique and universal role of Christ in it.
The article firstly describes the contemporary context of religious diversity which creates new opportunities for the church to engage with religions. It defines “religious inclusiveness” not as a form of religious syncretism (incorporation of some doctrines, moral rules, myths, rituals or practices of other religions) but as a theological approach that gives equal attention to two essential Christian convictions: God’s love is universal and therefore reaches other believers; and God’s love is particular and is made visible in Jesus. The author argues that the idea of religious inclusiveness is not new; in fact it goes back as far as early Christianity, finds support in the documents of the Second Vatican Council, and is present in the post-conciliar magisterium, especially in the apostolic constitution Ex corde Ecclesiae (1990) by Pope John Paul II.
In its further stage, the article pays attention to practical ways of implementing education for religious inclusiveness at the undergraduate level in Catholic institutions of higher learning by analysing a number of important areas: the urgency of theological education for religious inclusiveness; the significance of courses on interreligious dialogue; studying theology from a comparative perspective and other faiths’ spirituality; and testing theological studies through praxis and dialogue of life. The analysis ends by attempting to apply the above practical ways of teaching and learning theology to the South African context of religious plurality.

Crises of education as the result of the "post-socialist disease" has been noticed in Poland, just after the collapse of the socialist system. Observing many existing treats and challenges towards the education, the Catholic Church in Poland have supported the process of religious and moral formation, building it on the basis of the personalistic anthropology. In this article, authors undertake the issue of moral education, which includes: basic norms of Christian life, the formation of conscious, education towards freedom and self-education; as well as religious education, which presents sanctity as the main goal of Christian formation. Responsible undertaking of education of children presuppose close co-operation of parents, teachers and educators.

Der Beitrag der Familie am göttlichen Erlösungsplan beschränkt sich nicht nur auf ihre Teilhabe am schöpferischen Wirken Gottes. Vielmehr bildet die Familie das vollkommenste und natürlichste Umfeld menschlicher Erziehung. Die religiöse Erziehung in der Familie findet ihr Fundament, indem sie die ihr von Gott aufgetragene Mission erfüllt, indem sie zu einer tiefgehenden Gemeinschaft von Leben und Liebe wird. Die religiöse Erziehung in der Familie ist die Erfüllung und die Fortführung des schöpferischen Wirkens Gottes. Die Eltern, die aus Liebe und für die Liebe einem neuen Menschen das Leben schenken, übernehmen damit die Aufgabe, ihm die Fülle des menschlichen Lebens zu ermöglichen. Im vorliegenden Artikel wird die Frage nach der Bedrohung der religiösen Erziehung in der gegenwärtigen Familie gestellt, dabei wird im Besonderen ihr gesellschaftlich-kultureller Kontext aufgezeigt. Die Abhandlung zeigt zunächst Bedrohungen des Umfelds religiöser Erziehung in der Familie auf. Im Folgenden werden die ökonomische und die gesellschaftlich-moralische Krise, der Pluralismus sowie die Krise der Religion als solche thematisiert. Denn all dies beeinflusst unter anderem auch die stattfindenden Veränderungenin der gegenwärtigen Familie.

Die Familie – eine Gemeinschaft des Lebens und der Liebe – nimmt im Leben der Kirche eine ganz spezifische Rolle ein. Um diese Rolle umfassend zu erfüllen, erhält sie ihre eigene Gabe, die über die Identität von Ehe und Familie entscheidet. Die Familie kann nicht vor den Aufgaben resignieren, zu denen sie im Aufbau der Gemeinschaft der Kirche berufen ist und zu deren Verwirklichung sie mit ihrem speziellen Charisma bestärkt ist. Die organische Struktur der Familie stellt ihren großen Reichtum dar, bildet das Fundament für die Religionserziehung in der Familie, offenbart gleichzeitig jedoch auch die große Herausforderung, die in dieser Hinsicht ganz besonders vor den Eltern stehen. Sie müssen sich dessen bewusst werden, dass es vor allem sie sind, die ihre Kinder erziehen und sich gleichermaßen um deren religiöse Bildung kümmern müssen, weil sie deren Eltern sind. Wenn sie diese Aufgabe mit anderen Menschen teilen, insbesondere mit der Kirche und der Schule, dann soll sich dabei auf richtige Weise der Grundsatz der Subsidiarität widerspiegeln. Der vorliegende Artikel geht auf die Frage nach dem Charisma der Familie sowie nach der von ihr erfüllten Religionserziehung ein, wobei ihre Wertschätzung und Wahrnehmung besondere Beachtung erfahren.

The aim of this paper is to illustrate prospects, limitations and challenges connected with providing the Polish youth with regional education as part of religious education. The conducted research focuses on: supporting the young in discovering the regional community and the regional cultural heritage, and preparing them for Christian involvement in socio-cultural activities in the region. The following issues have been presented: the nature of regional education in Polish schools, the role and place of regional education in teaching religious education, the practice of providing regional education in religion lessons in secondary schools. All the abovementioned issues have been discussed in the light of the Polish pedagogical and catechetical literature and only with reference to the young. They have shown the complexity and the variety of aspects of regional education in teaching religion to the young. In the closing section, some conclusions and catechetic postulates have been presented.

The changes that have been taking place in the Polish education system oblige teachers of religious education to raise their qualifications and pedagogical competences. Up-todate knowledge and pedagogical skills are essential for diligent teaching, upbringing and caretaking work.
This article attempts to present the aims, tasks and different forms of pedagogical development of religious education teachers which result from educational changes in Polish schools. In the analyses undertaken, the mission of the religious education teacher in the school environment has been taken into consideration. The paper also points to the dynamic character of the permanent formation. It has been clearly noted that the pedagogical development of Polish religious education teachers is among the priorities as far as formative activities are concerned. It has been suggested that empirical research be undertaken among various groups of religious education teachers.

Religious education in the context of the reform of the educational system
Current changes in the Polish education system give rise to new challenges as well as to teaching and educational dilemmas. They also affect religious education in schools, necessitating discussions and catechetical analyses. This paper focuses on the need to develop new core curriculum for religious education, as well as new syllabuses, textbooks and teaching aids for religious instruction in kindergartens, primary and secondary schools. It indicates the need to specify the stage of school education at which students should be prepared for First Confession and First Holy Communion and for the Sacrament of Confirmation. It is considered important to support teachers of religion in developing competence required to undertake tasks resulting from the reform of the education system. The challenges identified in this way require in-depth and multifaceted reflection and discussion, involvement of competent catechists and religious instructors in solving dilemmas and designing innovative didactic and educational solutions. Teamwork directed towards supporting children and youth in their integral development and education in faith, enhanced with interdisciplinary correlation, can result in bringing forward valuable proposals for religious education in schools.
