THE ACTIVITY OF THE LVIV CIRCLE OF PRIESTS-PREFECTS IN THE PERIOD OF IIND REPUBLIC OF POLAND. „CATECHETICAL AND EDUCATIONAL MONTHLY MAGAZINE” 1919–1939
Summary
Priests-Prefects’Association operated in Poland in the years 1919–1939. Their members were priests who were teaching religious education and did the pastoral work in the school environment. Articles presented in Catechetical and Educational Monthly Magazine show the work of priests in the Association. The aim of the activity of the Association was to introduce the idea of the catholic upbringing and to exchange experiences. The Lviv Circle of Priests-Prefects was one of the biggest in the country and the work of the priests was a guiding light for the others. The priests met on weekly meetings where they read their papers out. The main issue of them was their pastoral work at school. In the Circle there were three sections. Their members in detail discussed issues concerning state primary and secondary schools and Marian Sodalities.

DER KATECHETISCHE DIENST DER KIRCHE
Der Verfasser behandelt die immer aktuelle Frage nach den Aufgaben der Kirche gegenüber dem Menschen. Das Problemfeld wird auf einen, aber gewiss wichtigen Wirkungsbereich der Kirche eingeengt, und zwar zum Dienst am Menschen durch die Katechese. Der Verfasser analysiert die katechetischen Dokumente und auf dieser Grundlage weist er nach, dass die Kirche in ihrer an den Menschen orientierten Tätigkeit für ihre oberste Aufgabe die Verkünd-igung des in Jesus Christus ankommenden Gottesreiches, der Heilszeit, erachtet. Auf diesem Grund stellt er die Be-deutung des durch die Kirche verkündeten auferstandenen Christus im Leben des Christen dar. Christus wird für jeden Menschen zum Vorbild des Dienstes und der Liebe und zugleich der Achtung seiner Freiheit. In diesem Zu-sammenhang wird die Frage gestellt, wie die Kirche in ihren einzelnen Gliedern die Absicht entdeckt, die den göt-tlichen Meister geführt hat, als er seine Jünger den Dienst am Menschen durch die Liebe lehrte.

CHALLENGES FACING MINISTRY TODAY
Summary
In the face of cultural, economic and social changes a question arises about the shape of the ministry of the word. The article presents a reflection on believers’ religious expectations. One of their expectations is a thorough and exhaustive explanation of the content of the Christian faith. A starting point for such reflection is understanding that Christianity is not ‚the religion of the Book’ but‚ the religion of the word of God’. It should be underlined that the central point of the Christian faith is the person of Triune God, who, in incarnated Christ revealed His mystery. This assumption requires conscious actions, which, on the one hand, will shape the believers’ correct image of God, and, on the other hand, will teach them how to use the sources of faith, which make this image clearer.
Another important factor is teaching believers how to use both natural cognition and religious cognition, which together help to discover that the centre of the Christian message is the prophecy of the Kingdom of God initiated in the person of Jesus Christ. Church actively promotes the message of salvation. Catechesis and religious upbringing play an especially important role in spreading this message, as they aim at shaping and upbringing a human being who respects the divine law.

NELLA RICERCA DELLA NATURA DELLA LINGUA NELLA CATECHESI
Il linguaggio della catechesi diventa oggi una delle questioni principali per comprendere tutto il processo della trasmissione della fede. Se e vero, che ogni persona ha il diritto di sentire il messaggio del Vangelo nella propria lingua e secondo il suo linguaggio, dovrebbe nell'incontro della fede incontrarla per mezzo di un linguaggio semplice, iniziale, comprensibile, primo di tecnicita… Cercando la vera natura dell'linguaggio della catechesi incontriamo soppratutto il simbolo (metafora, parabola, mito…), il linguaggio simbolico, che corrisponde con la natura stessa della religione, molto diverso da quello oggettivo-descrittivo. Questo linguaggio e pero altamente apprezzabile e umanizzante, e presenta in modo reale una critica e contestazione della unilateralita e degli aspetti antiumani della cultura contemporenea. E anche capace di far aprire la porta del mistero, che e una delle mete principali del processo dell'inizziazione cristiana. Esige pero la necessita di conoscere tutte le regole della interpretazione o dell'ermeneutica per far abilitare a leggere i testi bibblici, fonti principali della catechesi e dell'insegnamento della religione cattolica nella scuola.

What about parish catechesis in The Church in Poland
Summary
Lack of parish religious education in Poland should be seen as a failure that is now bringing negative consequences. It is already a common belief, even among those who had originally been staunch advocates of the catechesis, that the so called religious education in schools has not brought the expected results. It has not become an effective element or means of development of faith among the younger generation of Poles. If it somehow manages to be successful it is to a negligible extent. Lack of religious education in parishes renders it impossible to fully form an adult, in particular while taking up and bringing into fruition the family catechesis. Furthermore, it goes without saying that young generations cannot be competently educated the Christian way without the input from their families. Understandably, adult catechesis will not become a panacea for the educational accomplishment of adults and children as well as the young people. Nevertheless, the presence of catechesis considerably increases the chances of more effective impact on education of children and young people alike. Only the parish catechesis is able to ensure the creation of the comprehensive and integral program of the development of Christian life.

ATTORNO ALLA CONCEZIONE DI CATECHESI NELL'INSEGNAMENTO DI GIOVANNI PAOLO II
L'articolo sopra presentato propone una riflessione dedicata al tema della catechesi, tirato fuori dall'abbondante insegnamento teologico di Giovanni Paolo II. Dell'argomento preso in esame viene trattato in modo da poter dare una risposta a questa domanda: qual e la concezione della catechesi nell'insegnamento lasciatoci dal papa che durante il suo pontificato non soltanto insegnava autorevolmente su di essa, ma la praticava in maniera affascinante ed esemplare. Giovanni Paolo II non si stancava mai di radicare nei cuori dei credenti la convinzione che la catechesi e un atto ecclesiastico. Percio, tutti coloro che si dedicano ad essa agiscono nel nome della Chiesa ed esercitano il suo mandato. E' il motivo, per cui devono acquisire un'esatta comprensione della catechesi, senza la quale rischiano di non afferrarne tutto il significato e la portata (cfr. Catechesi tradendae, nr 18). L'esattezza di tale comprensione consiste nella necessita di intendere la catechesi, come la intende la Chiesa che manda i catechisti ad evengelizzare il mondo. Il contenuto presentato nell'articolo ha il desiderio di aiutare i cristiani di oggi nella riscoperta di questo segreto sottile e cosi importante. Lo facciamo basando sul contenuto delle catechesi dedicate al tema da noi trattato, svolte da Giovanni Paolo II durante alcune udienze del mercoledi. Prendiamo anche in considerazione appositi documenti dati alla luce durante il suo potificato.

INTRODUCTION OF CHILDREN INTO THE MYSTERY OF HOLY SPIRIT IN THE FAMILY ENVIRONMENT.
Summary
Most specialists in pedagogy and catechetics agree that in the process of introducing children to the mystery of the Holy Spirit, parents should not concentrate as much on a speculative way of presenting Holy Spirit, but rather unite and combine children’s everyday experiences with faith reality. The first task of Christian parents should not be the transmission of Catechism, but the care of creating childhood full of love, trust, respect, forgiveness and joy. Only on the basis of faith experiences parents may start to talk with children about the Holy Spirit using correct, interesting and rather simple words. Of significant role in this process ist he person of Jesus Christ. Listening to his words the child will discover the Holy Spirit not as an „anonymous Power,” but as a person, who is present in the Church, keeping vigil over Church development and inspiring Christians for opening, creativity, conversions and perfecting life.

REFLECTIONS ON RELIGIOUS EDUCATION AND CATECHESIS IN CATHOLIC SCHOOLS IN ENGLAND
Summary
The distinctions between catechesis and religious education are recognised in the official Church documents on education, but still are causing problems in Catholic education theory and practice. The author of this article offers some reflections on the research into how far the distinction between catechesis and religious education is has been recognised by the Catholic education theorists with particular reference to the National Project of Catechesis and Religious Education. The immense work of the Project has been to supply current needs of RE teachers, pupils of Catholic schools, parents, catechists. Yet, the present situation requires an ecclesial community which is ready to take the risk of „creating the living language” as a task of the religious education process.

FORMATION TOWARDS PARISH COMMUNITY AS THE GOAL OF RELIGIOUS EDUCATION IN SCHOOLS.
Summary
The article entitled „Formation Towards Parish Community as the Goal of Religious Education in Schools” is an attempt to describe the role and meaning of religious education in the process of making the parish into a community. The author proves that the religious education inschools can greatly influence to transform the parish into community and the meaning of catechetical instruction cannot be diminished. This analysis is based on the correlation between the catechetical teachingin schools and the pastoral-catechetical activity in the parish. Fr. W. Osial relates first how the catechetical task of formation towards the community is viewed in the documents of the Church. The documents say that this is one of the six fundamental goals of catechesis. The second part of the article is an analysis of the content and forms of education for the community. Numerous and specific examples of the catechetical activity inschools are presented here and are divided into short and long-term (based on the formation in various religious groups) activities. In the last part the author explores the question of the role of the teacher in the process of drawing the pupils into the parish. The teacher’s attitude is one of the most important factors in influencing the participation of young people in the initiatives directed to them. The teacher’s importance as a role model is also stressed, as well as his personal engagement and openness to the problems of youth.
